POSITION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The WVU Department of Community Medicine and the WVU Institute for Health Policy Research seek a health policy researcher with a strong funding record and the capability to propose, obtain, and complete health policy research that can inform the decision-making process in the health systems of West Virginia and the nation. The selected candidate will teach health policy at the graduate level, and work with the Director of the WVU Institute for Health Policy Research. The successful candidate will become a resource to policymakers in the state and the nation. The appointment will be an open rank, 12-month tenure track position. Salary will be commensurate with rank and experience.
The Research Director position will be located at the main Morgantown campus. The Institute for Health Policy Research is located at the health sciences center's Charleston Division in the state's capital. The Institute actively partners with state agencies in obtaining and managing federal and foundation grants on a variety of policy issues. The successful candidate will assume a leadership role in developing the research agenda and other outreach activities to further the Institute's goals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
PhD, DrPH, or equivalent degree; demonstrated experience in competitively funded research and outreach; leadership capability; excellent communication skills; must be able to effectively interact with partners from diverse disciplines. Must be eligible for appointment to the graduate faculty, teach health policy to graduate students, and mentor graduate students engaged in health policy research. Experience in working with governmental entities to identify research that meets the public policy needs is preferred.

The Department of Community Medicine, with a highly interdisciplinary collaborative research faculty, seeks to make a positive impact on health policy practices and outcomes. The department has a CEPH-accredited Master of Public Health (MPH) degree program, Master of Science in School Health Education (MS) and a PhD in Public Health Sciences. The department has strong alliances with the state public health and education infrastructure. The Institute for Health Policy Research supports federal, state, and regional policy research needs. The Institute will be one of the critical training grounds for the PhD in Public Health Sciences. West Virginia University (a Doctoral Research-Intensive University) is the state's land-grant university. With an enrollment of 26,000 students, WVU is situated in a scenic rural area that has been featured in numerous publications for its high quality of life, cultural amenities, and outdoor recreation.
